COMPLETE AND PUBLISH STUDY OF BIPOC/WHITE PAY DISPARITY
THE PROBLEM
In 2017, Equity published a comprehensive study detailing systemic hiring bias in our industry. While anyone paying attention already knew that such bias existed, gathering and publishing the data was an important first step towards correcting the problem. Simply put, when you have facts, you can force others to take the issue seriously.
Such is the case with issues of pay disparity between BIPOC stage managers and actors and their white counterparts. I have no doubt that significant pay disparity exists between our members, and yet without the gathering and publishing of data, we cannot take the first steps towards solving the problem.
