ANTI-RACISM TRAINING FOR ALL MEMBERS
THE PROBLEM
In order to become an anti-racist organization—one that actively fights agains the systemic racism endemic both in our industry and our society—Actors' Equity needs to equip and empower its members to become accomplices and co-conspirators to our BIPOC stage managers, actors, and colleagues. This includes our rank-and-file membership, as well as those serving in positions of leadership. Not enough resources are currently being dedicated to effective anti-racism training for all of the union's members.
THE SOLUTION
While I'm not confident that Equity could mandate anti-racism training as a condition of union membership (as is called for in the demands of #weseeyouWAT), it is both possible and necessary to dedicate resources to ensure that effective anti-racism training is available to all Equity stage managers and actors nationwide.
PROPOSED RESOLUTION
RESOLVED, that with all due haste Actors' Equity shall dedicate resources to ensure that effective, professional anti-racism training is made available to all Equity stage managers and actors nationwide.
