ABOUT SID

AS AN ACTOR

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Sid Solomon received his training at New York's LaGuardia Arts High School and the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater BFA Actor Training Program. He spent nine years living and working in Minneapolis/St. Paul, becoming an EMC in 2006 as an Apprentice at the Children's Theatre Company. In 2010, he joined Actors' Equity when he signed a contract with The Acting Company, and moved back home to New York shortly thereafter.

Since 2018, Sid has been working as an understudy on The Play That Goes Wrong, first on its First National Tour, and currently in the Off-Broadway production. He has also worked with The Acting Company, New York Classical Theatre, Classic Stage Company, the LCT Directors Lab, the Guthrie Theater, Virginia Stage, Bay Street Theater, Riverside Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre, Northern Stage, Florida Rep, Orlando Shakespeare, Adirondack Theater Festival, Theatre Raleigh, Mill Mountain Theatre, Florida Stage, Georgia Shakespeare, Minneapolis' Children's Theatre Company, and Mixed Blood Theatre, among many others.

He is a 13-time deputy, and has worked under Production, Off-Broadway, LORT, LOA-LORT, SPT, Guest Artist, Special Appearance and Transition Agreements, as well as the New York City Showcase Code and Stage Reading Guidelines.

AS An EQUITY VICE PRESIDENT AND COUNCILOR

Sid served on Equity's National Council from 2015-2020, first as an Eastern Principal Councilor and then as Eastern Regional Vice President. In that time, he amassed a 95% Council attendance record, and served on a virtually unparalleled 22 Equity committees and working groups.

During his time on the Council, Sid dedicated himself to member engagement, firmly believing that Equity’s leaders should play a visible and active role in the day-to-day lives of its members. He therefore committed himself to being the most accessible member of the Council, making himself easy to find, and standing out as an invaluable resource to Equity's members during our current, unprecedented times.

He traveled extensively during his time on the Council, visiting more than 15 of Equity's Liaison Areas to meet with, listen to, and learn from members across the country. He then used that engagement to champion member-driven and regionally-specific approaches to shaping Equity policy, including the improvement of our contracts. Sid is proud that consistent upticks in both jobs and wages were seen in the Eastern Region during his tenure as Vice President.

Sid holds a Certificate in Labor Leadership from the Worker Institute at Cornell University's ILR School, as well as Certificates in both Fundamentals of Health Benefits and ERISA Compliance from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.

AS A REGULAR GUY

Sid lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in a ridiculously small studio apartment. His brilliant spouse, Gretchen, serves as a Director of Major Gifts for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and their impossibly elderly dachshund, Gigi, excels at sleeping and begging for treats even when she won't eat her dinner. He is a die-hard fan of University of Minnesota athletics, a marathon and half-marathon running enthusiast, and can solve a Rubik's Cube in about a minute. (But he's trying to get faster.)
